Wow, that would be absolutely terrific! We are full right now at the shelter. Really full. It's terrifying as we are a no-kill facility and we never want to change that. Have you ever been to Hillside? We do not keep dogs in kennels during the day. Many folks have an idea that no-kill shelters are a prison for animals. Hillside SPCA is certainly not. Many of our dogs think it's heaven on earth considering where they came from! We have large yards where they can run and play, or lounge. With the hot weather here, we have several "baby" pools filled with water so they can splash, play with their floating toys and keep cool - and wet if that's what they like! They go for walks throughout the day and we get to know each one's personality individually. I invite you to visit us if you haven't already. And we certainly could use PR right now. I (we) surely appreciate your offer. Please let me know how I can help you help us!
Thanks a million!

Oh, thank you so much! Maisy is a puppymill gal. We are her 5th home after being passed around until she ended up at the shelter where I work. Now she's ours here at home - forever. She helps keep us in shape...there's a reason her nickname is Crazy Maisy! Just mention the word "ball" and watch what happens.
We also have another Border Collie, a smoothie, who was purchased at a Lancaster puppymill. Breezy was a cruelty case and came to our shelter. She was a complete bundle of nerves and scared to death, but after training and a whole lot of TLC, is now the shelter mascot and good-will ambassador! She visits nursing homes and schools, marches in parades representing the Hillside SPCA, and loves agility. They both are the apple of our eyes along with our two adopted lab mixes.
So many of the puppymill dogs end up at our shelter. People think of shelter dogs as mixed breeds, or "mutts". But the uninformed purchasers (what must we do to get them to understand what they are doing?) of these mill dogs find out the dogs are too big, too energetic, shed too much, bark too much, pee in the house, etc., and they end up with us at Hillside. THEN they find their forever homes, fortunately.
I'll pass along your lovely compliment to Maisy. She'll be tickled pink (as am I).
We look forward to seeing you at Puppymill Awareness Day '08.
Sincerely,
Janine Choplick and Maisy and Breezy, the two best rescued BCs in the world!
